Our Prayer Shawl Ministry is more than 17 years old
Mary Lou Thompson started our Prayer Shawl Ministry in the Fall of 2008 asking interested folks to meet once a week to knit or crochet prayer shawls. The group researched patterns and ideas for shawls and gave their first shawl to a "secret prayer shawl sister".
Prayer Shawls are given for many occations such as illness, births, weddings, graduations, death, other sorrows and celebrations. In addition to shawls the group has made colorful prayer squares for children and babies, and pocket squares small enough to carry in a pocket or purse. Many people outside our church family have received blessings, even in Africa.
Mary Lou Thompson and a friend
After 17 years we've lost count of how many shawls, squares, hats and more have been created and shared with those in need. We've sent sleeping mats, winterr hats and scarves to Mexico, the Navajo Nations and supplied them to our local homeless shelter. In fact we even made hot pads for a pie fundraiser for the homeless. We celebrate this ministry in honor of Mary Lou Thompson
We also have beautiful labels designed, made and donated by Gary Stende. A special thinkyou goes to him for his dedication to our minisrty.
If you would like to request a Prayer Shawl or join the group contact Lynn Brandvold or Karla Moore.
